Social engineering is the art of manipulating people so they give up confidential information. In the context of information security, Social engineering is the psychological manipulation of people into performing actions or divulging confidential information. This differs from social engineering within the social sciences, which does not concern the divulging of confidential information. Social engineering is a discipline in social science that refers to efforts to influence particular attitudes and social behaviors on a large scale, whether by governments, media or private groups in order to produce desired characteristics in a target population. Social engineering is the art of exploiting human psychology, rather than technical hacking techniques, to gain access to buildings, systems or data. For example, instead of trying to find a Social Engineering (SE) is a blend of science, psychology and art. While it is amazing and complex, it is also very simple. We define it as, “ Any act that influences a person to take an action that may or may not be in their best interest.”
