The application "network-manager-applet" is a GNOME application. KDE ships with it's own interface to NetworkManager, referred to as Network Management. To enable the applet, right click on the system tray area (preferably the "Show Hidden Icons" arrow, select "System Tray Settings" > Display. KDE applications. unregistered from sub-manager and reregistered (had to do it through ssh because it doesn't work locally) in /etc/rhsm/rhsm.config there is no proxy configured in /etc/hosts, I have the IP and hostname for the target repo/satellite server.
